A Hundred Thousand Sundays	©Brian Hooper, November 2008

It was long ago, a hundred thousand Sundays,
It was long ago, and not so far away,
That you came to us, in meekness and in glory,
Will you come to us again on Christmas Day?
Will you come to us again on Christmas Day?
You came to us among the poor and lowly,
With nothing but a manger as your bed,
You came to show us all we can be holy,
But first we must be last, that's what you said.
First we must be last, that's what you said.

But that was long ago, a hundred thousand Sundays,
When the world was slow, it's not like that today;
We have things to do, and standards to maintain and
we will follow you, Lord, in our modern way,
We will follow you, Lord, in our modern way.
You came to us among …….

It was long ago, the Baptist said 'prepare' and
it was long ago, when Herod saw the threat,
Now we see it too, you call us to be humble,
Is there room in humble places for you yet?
Can we find some humble places for you yet?
You came to us among ……

It was long ago, a hundred thousand Sundays,
It was long ago, and not so far away,
That you came to us, in meekness and in glory,
Will you come to us again on Christmas Day?
Will you come to us again on Christmas Day?
Will you come to us again on Christmas Day?
